Kirk Cousins on Life's Best Decision

The decisions that quarterbacks make can either result in their team adding a win to their season or a loss to their record. That’s no different for Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.

At the Athletes in Action Super Bowl Breakfast, Cousins recalled playing in a tight game against Notre Dame during his first time as starting quarterback for Michigan State.

With the game on the line, he had to make a game-defining decision.

As he ran out on the field he looked back at his coach who was pointing to his temples, signaling to Cousins to make a great decision with the football with 30 seconds left on the clock.

Ball is snapped.

Ball Intercepted.

Game over.

He picked himself up off the turf with a stadium full of people cheering his failure, but that moment helped him come to a greater realization about making the most consequential decision in the game of life.

“When I look back now, I realize that decision-making is not just quarterbacking its life…it’s a far more important game than the game of football,” Cousins said during the breakfast.

“The Bible makes it very clear that the best decision you will ever make, far beyond where to throw a football, is the decision to make of who will be the master of your life and will you allow Jesus Christ to become Lord of your life and have control of your life and will you serve Him,” he said.

The Knowing God Personally resource explains how you can make a decision to have a new life in Christ. Here’s four principles to guide your growth in your relationship with Christ.

Principle 1: God loves you and created you to know Him personally.

Principle 2: Man is sinful and separated from God, so we cannot know Him personally or experience His love.

Principle 3: Jesus Christ is God’s only provision for man’s sin. Through Him alone we can know God personally and experience God’s love.

Principle 4: We must individually receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; then we can know God personally and experience His love.
